The birth of the modern day bikini was July 1, 1946.  Invented by a man but fine tuned by women, the first-ever bikinis were considered scandalous with their body baring, navel revealing styles. Over the decades, they’ve gotten smaller and we think, BETTER.

Imagine that –– an entire outfit that fits neatly in the palm of your hand.   Truly the world’s sexiest use of fabric.

Bon anniversaire, bikini!

Pictured above: Brigitte Bardot –– one of the first to wear a bikini.  Gorgeous.

I have an obsession. An obsession that has taken over my ability to often times, get work done, or focus. This obsession has tapped into my creative side and has inspired me to host parties with themes, plan a home makeover, and purchase things I didn't think I needed before. My obsession: PINTEREST!

What is PINTEREST you ask? Basically, it's a virtual "pinboard" that allows you to pull images off the internet of anything that inspires you and categorize them to your hearts content. I have "pinboards" titled: Foodie, My Style, Par-tay, DIY etc. You can browse the internet and be the first to "pin" something, or browse other members "boards" and "repin", follow your friends comment, or like! It's a lot like Facebook but WAAAY cooler.  And if you're at all creative or just like looking at REALLY COOL pictures, it definitely should be on your radar. So what are you waiting for? Go waste precious time! I'm telling you, it's addicting!

Happy Pinning!

A French artist famous for her use of strong colors and geometric shapes, Sonia Delaunay was not only a painter, but a textile, set, and fashion designer as well.  In a word, TALENTED.  And of course, she's on our radar because of her fabulous swimsuits -- even if they were made of wool.  Wool!  Check out her 1928 suit below.
For more about Sonia, including the first major exhibition of her work in the US in the last thirty years, check her out at the Cooper Hewitt, National Design Museum. P.S. She was known as a modern artist and designer who "merged art and everyday life."  LOVE that.

You know the ones -- the suits that you can picture in your mind with just a three or four word description.  Ursula Andress in Dr. No.   Bo Derek in 10. The Farrah Fawcett poster.  But as much as it was about the great swimwear, it was also about the confidence of the women who wore them.  Groundbreaking, skin-baring looks that inspire us all to feel and look THAT good.

Pictured clockwise from top left: Brigette Bardot in Cannes (one of the first to ever don a bikini); Bo Derek in 10 (as much about the hair as the suit); Ursula Andress in Dr. No (a definite POWER bikini); Elizabeth Taylor in Suddenly Last Summer (body BARING for its time); Demi Moore in Charlie's Angels; Halle Barry; and of course, Farrah.  In a word, FABULOUS.
