Hi Julia, we're so excited for this collection! Can you give us a little background on how Seaesta Surf started?
I started Seaesta Surf after I gave birth to my first child and realized how hard it was to find boardshorts and swimsuits that fit well and aren’t covered with ugly cartoons! I wanted to make a swim brand for kids that was both sustainable and fashion-forward.
What does Seaesta Surf mean?
As most parents can attest, the early years of parenthood revolve around SLEEP. When will our children sleep through the night and will they take a nap today? The sleep and siesta (nap in spanish) obsession is real. And growing up in California, we are equally as obsessed with the ocean. So sea + siesta = SEAESTA.
How would you describe Seaesta Surf in 3 words?
#SURFEATNAP (that’s our motto and our hashtag!)
What inspired the colors and silhouettes of the pieces?
The pink and gold on the Seaside Gingham swimsuits were such a pretty summer combination – like a summer sunset. And for the Triple Scoop Butter Pecan boardshorts was loosely inspired by vintage Padres uniforms ;) We are a San Diego brand, afterall!
How would you describe your design process?
I collect little bits and pieces of inspiration all the time to save for later collections. I live to make moodboards. I’m always inspired by vintage fabrics and clothes, music, streetwear, old magazines, etc. Currently I love looking back at trends and bands from my youth in the 90s. Style icons I love from that era are Drew Barrymore, Lisa Bonet & Gwen Stefani.
How would you describe this collection?
This collection is the perfect purchase for summer – pack the full matching set in your suitcase for your upcoming summer trips! The colors are so fun and complement all skin tones. I love that we were able to use eco fabrics and included a variety of fits for the mamas that work for lots of different body types.
