This International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating all week long by highlighting female founders who innovate and inspire. We caught up with Lynnsee van Gordon, founder of cult-fave skincare brand Anese, to learn more about her inspiration, her professional advice for women, and how she does self-care right. Read on to get the scoop!
What inspired you to start your business?
I was looking for a creative outlet and I also love the beauty space. It’s expressive and I love learning about formulating. I have a background in branding so developing a brand is something I studied and love doing.
What are you most proud of?
I’m very proud of the community we’ve created online that focuses on talking about skin issues and sharing advice with one another. The Anese brand is very fun and honest, so it makes conversations with one another about our bodies more comfortable to have.
Self-care is so important, especially now. What do you do to show yourself a little TLC?
When I need to wind down I love to take a hot shower and do a deep mask (everywhere). After that I’ll hang out in bed with a sleep mask, and read a good book with a cup of tea.
What are easy things people can do to treat themselves to some self-love at home?
What’s your favorite Anese product?
I love our new Cream Dream booty cream. We spent about a year developing it, it’s instantly softening without leaving any greasy residue and I love the scent. I use it on my hips and butt for stretch marks I developed when I was pregnant with my son. It’s my favorite moisturizer.
What’s one piece of professional advice you’d give to women?
That idea that you have that you’ve been putting off because you think it’s not ready, don’t stall anymore. Get it out into the world and let it tell you what it’s going to be. Learn from the feedback you get and then evolve it.
What things have you been doing to help you stay focused and motivated during this challenging year?
During a challenging time I like to put my head down and learn, test, evolve. I’ve committed to reading 50 books in 2021. Learning gives me new ideas which is motivation to push through challenges.
L*SPACE is about welcoming everyday moments, no matter how big or small. What brings joy to your everyday?
Every night I rock my one year old to sleep and we talk about our day. It’s a nice bonding moment that adds some perspective for me. I also am religious about my daily iced matcha from Maru Coffee here in LA. My husband and I go together and use the time to make some important decisions for the day. Those two rituals bring me joy and keep me grounded.
