Who are you and what’s your position at L*Space?
My name is Oanh, and I'm our Swim Senior Designer.
How have things changed over the years?
Our design team has grown quite a bit! It started out with just Monica and I, and now we have a Design Director, an Apparel Designer, and two assistants. It's really nice to see how the company is growing.
What does your typical day look like at L*Space?
Bikinis, bikinis, bikinis! I come in, look through emails, and do a little bit of research before the rest of the girls get in. But really, every day is different.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I get to work with really amazing women, and I love that every day we challenge each other and we just really click.
What’s the most challenging thing about your job?
Narrowing down. We present so many ideas each season, it's hard to kind of narrow down and focus on which trends we want to have each season.
What’s the most inspiring place you’ve visited?
That's too hard to pick just one! There are certain things I love about every place I've been...sometimes it's a color or texture. There's always something to be inspired by.
What is the #1 tip you’d give to gals looking to work in the industry?
Always be open to suggestions and different ways of approaching things. Never stop learning - once you feel like you know everything you become stagnant.
What’s your favorite swimwear trend?
The thong! It's coming back, and I'm hoping our Itsy Bottoms start coming back soon, so *fingers crossed.*
Tell us one of your favorite memories from working here.
Definitely seeing one of my first designs go down the runway at Miami Swim Week [the Wild Side one piece]. It was like, "Oh my god this is so exciting! Hopefully everyone likes it!" And it ended up being in the collection for a while, so that was really exciting.
What does THAT FEEL GOOD FIT mean to you?
You can look great in a bikini or anything that you wear, but if you don't feel confident in yourself that doesn't really matter. You have to feel it in your bones!
